A view of the Durbar at Rawalpindi, in modern Pakistan. This was held to honour the meeting between the Viceroy of India and the Amir of Afghanistan, in March and April 1885. 18,500 troops, including the 2nd Battalion, took part.The Durbar was cut short by news of a Russian attack in northern Afghanistan, which threatened to lead to war. The nd Battalion returned to Multan, where it prepared for war until September, when tensions had fallen.
